Located just minutes from the city amenities of Memphis, the town of Collierville offers both exciting adventures and peaceful retreats. Currently, the town offers 20 parks, 30 athletic fields, 10 tennis courts, greenbelt trails, play structures, an active community center and theater, as well as much more.
Unfortunately, many residents are unable to fully enjoy the attractions of their town due to back pain. So what could you be doing to stay active and have fun in Collierville if you didn’t have pain?
1. Cycle the Greenbelt
Grab your bike (or sneakers if you prefer)! The entire Greenbelt system has over 60 miles of trails and sidewalks connecting parks, schools, and neighborhoods throughout our community. Bike along the Wolf River and Nonconnah Creek taking in the natural vegetation and protected wildlife habitats. There is easy Greenbelt access for most Collierville residents.
2. Play Disc Golf at Hinton Park
Looking for something new to try? The newest addition to Collierville Parks and Recreation is Hinton Park. The nearly 110 acres includes two 9 hole Disc Golf courses. If you can throw a Frisbee, you can enjoy this sport. It’s a healthy lifelong activity, easy to learn, and accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels.
3. Fish at Herb Parson’s Lake
Bring a picnic lunch, fishing pole, and some chicken livers if you want to snag a catfish. This 177 acre fishing lake includes a bait shop and rental boats. In addition to catfish, fishermen will find a variety of other fish including perch, sunfish, bluegill, crappie, and large mouth bass.
4. Shelby Farms Stables
Hit the trails of Shelby Farms park with a trail guide! During a one hour guided ride through the forest you may come across deer, geese, rabbits, raccoon, and hawks. This is a great experience with highly trained staff if you are new to riding or just getting back in the saddle (especially after a hiatus due to injury).
5. Take a Boat out at Shelby Farms
Enjoy beautiful Hyde Lake, part of the new expansion of Shelby Farms Park Conservancy. In the heart of this unique urban park, you can rent canoes, kayaks, and stand up paddle boards during the spring and summer months from the boat house. Great fun and exercise for all ages!
6. Downtown Memphis Attractions
We may be in the suburbs, but the big city isn’t far away. How long has it been since you were a tourist in your own city? Walk along the river, explore the pyramid, take in some great food, and enjoy the music scene. If sports is your passion, then make time for a Redbirds or basketball game. Whether it is scenery, history, or night life you will find it a plenty when you explore downtown. . . by foot, trolley, bike, or horse drawn carriage.
7. Walking Tour of Town Square
We can’t complete this list without the trademark of the town . . . a walking tour of the 1.33 acre Historic Town Square. Climb aboard the executive train car that has many original fixtures and remains unaltered since the 1940’s. The square appears untouched with turn of the century walkways, quaint shops, restaurants, cast iron fences, and charming bandstand. Throughout the year, you can enjoy concerts, fairs, and holiday events you won’t want to miss.
