Our bodies are amazing and can handle quite a bit of abuse from us and our environment. I mean, I did live through my college years despite horrible nutrition and sleep habits. I didn’t yet know what I know now about how to help my body help me.

Because when you are feeling sluggish, brain fogged, achy, constipated, bloated, or out of balance it isn’t your body working against. In fact, the body is programmed to do everything it can for survival. And so far, if you are reading this, it has done your job and you are surviving.

The question then is . . . are you thriving?

If you don’t feel like you can say a 100% Yes, then your body might need some help getting rid of the toxins that are overloading your system. Wondering if your body really needs a detox, then before you read further head over to last weeks blog to find your answer (Does My Body Need a Detox?).

If you are ready to give your bodies natural detox system some help in doing it’s job more efficiently, we have 10 ways to help your body detox to live your most healthy and vibrant life.

  1. Choose Less Processed Meats

Swap out processed meats like bacon, hot dogs and sausages for grass-fed beef, wild-caught salmon, and organic chicken. With fewer additives, preservatives, and fillers, your body is doing less work filtering out junk and energy for more important work.

  2. Swap Out Sugary Beverages

Get rid of sugar-sweetened beverages like sodas and sports drinks. Diet drinks with artificial sweeteners aren’t any better. Instead, choose water, green teas, and drinks naturally sweetened with stevia.

  3. Drink More Water

Staying hydrated is critical to diluting toxins and keeping your liver and kidneys healthy. Water is also important to preventing constipation and allowing your body to eliminate toxins on a regular basis.

  4. Eat More Natural Detox Foods

Certain whole foods naturally help your body detox. These include grapefruit, bone broth, brussel sprouts, berries beets, seeds and nuts. Add them to a salad to eat them raw or make a big pan of roasted veggies as an extra side dish.

  5. Get Enough Sleep

The time we are sleeping – especially between the hours of 10 pm and 2 am – is when our body does most of its detoxification, healing, and restoration. If we aren’t getting enough sleep, we aren’t giving our body the opportunity to do this important work.

  6. Add in Chia Seeds

Chia seeds pack in tons of fiber, which keeps things moving through the digestive system, allowing waste products to be excreted efficiently. Plus, they’re high in antioxidants to fight off free radicals and protect your liver against damage and disease. I get my serving each day in my protein shake.

  7. Take an Epsom Salt Bath

The magnesium contained within Epsom salt is known to decrease inflammation and pain, and the combination of magnesium with sulfur and oxygen is believed to stimulate the detox pathway in the body. It’s also relaxing which aides in more restorative sleep.

  8. Get in Daily Exercise

Keep your body moving with your favorite activities such as walking, jogging, biking, swimming, or yoga. Exercise is what keeps all of your systems moving optimally – especially the circulatory, digestive, and lymphatic systems so important to detoxification.

  9. Get Your Sweat On

Your skin is an organ that excretes a lot of toxins and this is done through sweating. You excrete toxins on a hot day and intense exercise, but the most detoxifying way to sweat is in an infrared sauna when your body experiences deep penetrating heat to draw out toxins.

  10. Supplement When Necessary

Due to medications, dysfunction, toxic overload, or genetic predisposition to your body not detoxifying optimally (such is the case for me with a MTHFR gene mutation) supplementation may benefit you to assist your detox pathways. You can find out what supplements may be right for you with our HIPPA protected FREE HEALTH ASSESSMENT.

Try one or try all ten to give your body an extra boost in detoxifying all those toxins we encounter each day. The good news is we don’t have to do all of these things all of the time. Dedicating one to four weeks on an occasional – often seasonal – basis can make a world of difference to your health, energy, and vibrance.
